His Story: Thrill-seeking and the ‘digital rush’

For years, Brad Saunders knew he wanted to get deeper into the thrilling world of web technology by opening his own business and managing his own projects. Brad started his career working in a web design firm in Florida. He moved to Stratford, Ontario two years later and held various positions developing his business skills and building partnerships. In 2010, he decided it was time to shift his career into high gear by launching his business, OOKIE Designs.

Through The Business Centre Nipissing Parry Sound, Brad was connected with the Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF). He received financing from CYBF to start his business and began working with David Neil, CYBF mentor and President of Neil Communications.

“David gave me the guidance and support I needed to get my business running,” said Brad. “He helped me stay focused on key areas within my business and that persistence is critical.”

Brad loves running his business. Being his own boss has allowed him to take on many diverse projects and interact with a range of different clients. He loves the ‘digital rush’ that comes from working in the fast-paced world of new technology and he feels empowered to learn new things every day.

To aspiring entrepreneurs, Brad said “there are a lot of ups and downs to being an entrepreneur – emotionally, financially, and more. It’s important to keep grounded and stay focused on your original objective.”
